Veteran Energy

About Veteran Energy

The story of Veteran Energy began in 2010 when Kevin Barber, an energy executive, and U.S. military veteran decided, that he wanted to give back to the American heroes that served in the military. He quickly found the right opportunity – to combine his desire to support the military members with support for the Texas community by offering reliable electricity to households and businesses and sharing a part of his profits with the veterans.

Ten years forward and the company is known for its competitive electricity rates, a range of energy products, easy account management, green energy rates and its contribution of the most needed resources to the veteran community. This month only, Veteran Energy already raised close to $750,000 for trusted veteran support organizations.

When you sign up for this monthly service, Veterans Energy will purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) on your behalf, in an amount equal to your energy consumption, making your usage 100% green

Veteran Energy Reviews

Customer reviews can be very misleading. Customers, who take the time to leave a review are often motivated either by a particularly negative, one-off experience with their energy provider or somehow incentivized to write a positive, and not always truthful review. That is not to say that all online reviews are untrue, but a healthy dose of skepticism is warranted when scrolling through a website with a streak of five-star reviews.

However, there are a couple of relatively unbiased institutions that seek to improve trust between Texans and businesses – a non-profit market analyst Better Business Bureau and the regulatory institution Public Utility Commission of Texas.

FAQs

Below are answers to some of the burning questions you might have about Veteran Energy:

How Do I Pay My Veteran Energy Bill?

Veteran Energy customers in Texas have multiple options to settle an electric bill:

  • Paying online in your online account
  • Calling 1-(800) 578-7070 any time and following the prompts to pay through the automated system
  • Sending a check to Veteran Energy, Payment Center, P.O. Box 660905, Dallas, TX 75266-0905
  • Paying in person: For a small fee, Veteran Energy accepts third-party payments through Moneygram and ACE Cash Express.

Do I Have To Sign a Contract To Become a Customer?

The answer depends on the type of energy plan you choose. If you opt for a fixed-rate contract, you are locking your price for a kilowatt-hour of electricity for a set period of time. These plans often require signing a contract and unfortunately, often carry early cancellation fees. If you decide on a variable-rate contract, your price per kilowatt-hour of electricity varies at the discretion of the electricity provider. You don’t need to sign a contract and you are free to switch anytime.

When will I receive my first Veteran bill?

Your first bill will be generated within six weeks after you sign up for one of the plans Veteran Energy offers. You don’t have to do anything as Veteran Energy will contact your current utility provider on your behalf and do the physical switching for you.

Does Veteran Energy offer 100% renewable energy plans?

It does. When you select the monthly service called Green choice, Veteran Energy will purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) on your behalf, equal to the amount of your energy consumption, making your usage 100% green. U.S. laws allow renewable energy generators — wind farms or solar power plants to receive a certificate that electricity was generated from clean sources, which it can later sell at the competitive market. For simplicity, 1 REC equals one megawatt-hour (MWh) of green power generated.

What Do Veterans Benefit From Veteran Energy?

Through the Power to Give Back program, customers who sign up for one of the electricity rates can choose from multiple organizations to support and give back to American veterans. The way that the program works is that instead of offering discounts for veterans’ energy, the company donates a portion of profits from the sales to one of the trusted veteran support organizations, such as Fisher House, Combined Arms, Texas VRF, Lone Star Veterans Association, or Paws for Heroes.
