UI Residential Service Rate Increase by 33%

Power consumers being serviced by United Illuminating will welcome the coming year with higher electricity bills. This is the upshot of the new default service rates that UI filed with the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA). The increased rates will be in effect beginning January 1, 2022.  

United Illuminating’s residential (Rate R) Standard Service rate is currently pegged at around 8.103 cents per kWh. This Rate R will rise by 33% from January 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022, and the increased rate will stand at 10.6731 cents per kWh. All the Standard Service rates mentioned in this article include the Bypassable FMCC (which is zero) where they’re applicable.

Meanwhile, UI’s GS Standard Service rate, which is currently at around 7.8593 cents per kWh, will go up by 26%, to 9.9109 cents per kWh on January 1, 2022.  

The new Standard Service rates for January 2022 t0 June 2022 are as follows. These are in cents per kWh (for Rates LPT & GST, rates only applicable for customers under 500 kW).
