If you want to switch, you will need your ESI ID. Let’s look at what it is.

Type in your zip code and then address below to pull up your ESI ID. You will also receive dozens of the lowest and best electricity rate offers for your specific home that are available now.

What is an ESI ID?

Your ESI ID — or “Electric Service Identifier”, also known as an ESIID, ESI ID, or ESI-ID is a unique identifier assigned to every electricity meter connected to a Texas home or a business. If you search for your ESI ID on your actual meter, you wouldn’t find it. You will however find it online, by entering your zip code and your residential or commercial address.

What information does it contain? Your ESI ID is simply the physical address where you receive your electricity. It allows the electricity company to verify your identity and lookup your electric bill history when switching electric plans.

When do I need My ESI ID?

Texas is big – not only when it comes to land size and population, but also in the energy choice it offers. Over 85% of the Lone Star State is deregulated (with only a few exceptions, like Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso) and the customers are free to switch to another electricity company with a better energy rate or customer service.

When shopping for a new electric plan, you will need your ESID number. Your Retail Energy Provider (REP) might use this number to set up your new electricity plan.  While most retail electric providers just need your address, it is helpful to have your ESI ID handy.

Why do I need My ESIID?

You will also need the number when you want to contact your utility company for a variety of reasons, for example, to request a new meter or signing up for an energy-efficiency program.

All in all, it’s important to be aware of what your ESI ID is and to have it handy when communicating with an energy company.
