PA Electricity Rates

Educated energy shoppers in Pennsylvania are able to secure the best electricity rates through energy choice. The ability for consumers to shop and compare electricity rates has created a competitive environment that has pushed prices down and product options up.

Electricity customers of the local PA utility companies PECO Energy, Pennsylvania Power & Light, Duquesne Light, Met-Ed, Penelec, and Penn Power, have the ability to buy their power supply from competitive electricity companies. The local utility companies are still responsible for power delivery, power line maintenance, and monthly meter reading and billing. Their services continue to be regulated by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.

The portion of the electric bill that is open to competition is the electricity generation supply section, which includes generation charges, transmission charges, and the gross receipts tax. Pennsylvania law requires all competitive electricity companies to offer residential rates that are an apples-to-apples comparison to the local utility default “Price to Compare”. The “Price to Compare” is the official PA terminology referring to the rate that customers who do not choose an alternative supplier pay for electricity generation and transmission.

The state does not put the same restrictions on competitive energy suppliers for commercial power contracts, however residential customers are well protected. This results in no hidden fees or surprises for residential consumers. If saving money on the monthly electric bill is the most important thing, then you just need to find the lowest fixed electricity rate in your specific PA utility market (PECO, PP&L, Duquesne, Met-Ed, etc.)

Find your local utility and choose one of the low rates below, or type in your zip code in the box located at the upper right of this screen:
